The music on "Approaching Zero," Karmin's first solo CD release has been described as progressive funk folk dharma rock with elements of East Indian raga, jazz and catchy horn lines in the mix. It is a blend of mindful lyrics with themes about conscious life, death, and remembering and commentary on the challenges of living in the world and inner transformation as a way through. There are themes that speak of where physics and consciousness interconnect while tuneful weaving guitar and synth parts support compelling vocals. The instrumental Earth of Air is graced with drumming by Ron Bret. It's highly original yet accessible song oriented rock with a spirit of improvisation that is both concise and expansive. The music from this seasoned yet relatively, unknown musician/writer presented on his debut solo release, is engaging and often head bobbing. Good music. Well produced.
