This is John Crush, guitarist. At the age of seven he studied violin with the great violinist and composer Walter Kelsey in Monterey, California. In his early teens he fell in love with the music of Segovia and Christopher Parkening and turned his attention to the guitar. By necessity John left home early and went to work as a lumberman and truck driver. He paid for his first concert quality guitar by delivering lumber and hauling concrete! As a musician John was inspired not only by the great masters but also by great singers and performers of the stage, theater, rock and roll and pop. Names such as the Beatles and Sinatra come to mind. Drawing from this diverse panoply of music he performed extensively in equally diverse venues including nightclubs, bars, colleges, theater, hotels to name a few. In his mid-twenties John married and started a family. He continued to play the guitar and started a construction business drawing on his skills as a carpenter and designer. He and his wife raised two sons, putting them through college and into adulthood. In 2006 he was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent chemotherapy and radiation and came out of it a survivor. He continues to work his guitar magic along with his business as a builder and lives with his wife in Aptos, California.
