Chris Wylde Chris has just released his 4th CD entitled 'Flying on Instruments'. It is a progressive instrumental album of original music with interpretations of aspects of aviation. Chris captures the emotions of flying through multi-timbre textures of rock, jazz, classical and enigmatic new age. Perhaps it comes easy to this talented multi-instrumentalist who composed all but one of the 14 songs on the album, Chris holds a FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate and seems equally at ease in his studio and he is in the air. Chris plays all instruments, piano, synth, percussion, guitars and bass as well as the Irish whistle. Flying on Instruments is an obvious play on words as flying through clouds requires a pilot to rely solely on the interpretation on the airplane's instrument display. Chris came from a musical family on his Dad's side. Most of the previous generation of the Wylde family played piano. As a child, Chris remembers two pianos being in the small living room of his parents home. Largely self-taught with a good ear for composition Chris began experimenting with sound and musical composition from an early age. A few get togethers with friends in the neighborhood helped to develop skills and by the time he was 20 Chris was performing in and around London in various cover bands. In the late 80's Chris helped form the acclaimed London jazz/pop band Take 5. As a co-writer and their keyboardist Chris enjoyed the cult following they created for themselves. During this period Chris was introduced to Vangelis, who had his private recording facility 'Nemo Studio' situated near Marble Arch, London. Here, Chris spent many a time helping out at the studio and observing the great composer as he put together his Oscar winning soundtracks such as Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner. Away from London, Chris spent some time performing as pianist on cruise ships during the early part of the 90's. It was at this time he began working on what would become his first CD, 'Earthrites'. This CD coincided with his permanent move from the UK to New Jersey, USA. A second project featuring acoustic guitars was released at the end of the 90's entitled 'Cask Conditioned'. To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight, Chris composed a batch of original music which became his 3rd release, 'Wright to the Moon'. This album featured the epic anthem '7 Souls of Columbia'. 'Flying on Instruments' is a beautiful album of music and will appeal to not just pilots and those with a love of aviation but to anyone with an appreciation for well-crafted progressive instrumental, symphonic contemporary music that soothes the soul. In 2010 and into next year Chris is filming a four-part PBS/Cable TV show featuring the handcrafted archtop guitars of the late Luthier Sam Koontz. A CD of the Howard Krive Guitar Collection is also planned.
